故事发生在九十年代北京一座古老的旗人宅院。改革的大潮席卷大都市的同时，也将这座小巷深处的小院中的四户人家卷进了激流之中。小院儿从此少了往日的宁静；小院儿的四户人家也从此少了往日的悠闲，就连院里的老槐树枯死之后，大夏天里街坊四邻乘凉儿的嗜好也没有了...。旅回りの劇団に所属する中学生の裕貴は、公演に合わせて一ヵ月ごとに転校を繰り返す生活。いつもの転校初日、友だちはいらないと宣言するが不登校の建と出会い、その心は揺らぎ始める…。。With no immediate family to live for, Joseph is haunted by a past he has tried, for decades, to forget - if not actively obscure with drink and drugs.
